About PCC

Panhandle Correctional Care was founded to fill the void in the Texas panhandle for the provision of quality health care to individuals incarcerated in county jails and alternative correctional facilities. PCC has grown into a health care company dedicated to providing this care in an efficient, cost-effective manner.

PCC, based in Amarillo, Texas, is a family-owned business committed to providing the best care possible, while keeping in mind the overall costs to the county. Affordability is one of our highest priorities, and we accomplish this through the use of many cost effective components and strategies and by employing a staff that is experienced and knowledgeable in all aspects of health care.

We are a full service company, specializing in adult and juvenile care and offer a wide range of services including:

  • Nursing staff
  • Physicians
  • Physician Assistants
  • Dentists
  • Dental Assistants
  • X-ray Technicians
  • Laboratory services and
  • Pharmaceutical services

We also offer educational programs for facility employees in medical training according to the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement Officer Standards and Education (TCLEOSE).

PCC currently serves several county jails and juvenile facilities in the Texas panhandle. We supply these facilities with a combination of services on an as needed basis and with health care providers trained in the individual needs of each facility. Our board certified physicians work full-time in correctional health and have over 20 years of experience in the field. Our skilled health care personnel are licensed by the State Board of Nursing Examiners or the Texas Department of Health and are certified as Basic Jailers in accordance with TCLEOSE. We utilize treatment protocols that have been tested in multiple facilities and are easily adaptable for specific needs. We have just completed a new drug formulary that conforms to the current Texas Medicaid drug list.

In addition to the services stated above, we negotiate with local hospitals, clinics and hospital districts to ensure costs are kept to a minimum. PCC will also work with local pharmacies, labs, dentists and out-patient services to help keep most of the taxpayer's money spent locally. We understand the risk associated with moving inmates for outside care and provide as much onsite care as possible, keeping movement of inmates to a minimum. The primary basis for inmate-instigated lawsuits against cities and counties is civil rights issues involving medical care and treatment. A high quality health care provider for inmates is the best defense in the courtroom. A pro-active approach is always the best.
